A tribute to the Calcutta Brothers

By December 1899 there were only 12 Calcutta Brothers left. The last Alphonsus Carbery died in 1932.

The Calcutta Brothers who had lived in appalling conditions, were dedicated to working for the poor.

With the advent of the Irish Brothers a new need was being catered for different to the one walked by Thomas Fitzpatrick,  Alphonsus Tolan and their gallant band of orphans

All honour to them!

Goethals Memorial School

In 1907, a new boarding school  was started in Kurseong on land purchased from the Maharajah of Burdwan.

For many years a successful farm was running in the school and supplied the school with milk, butter, vegetables, eggs and meat.

The school opened with 100 boys.
